A personal favourite of mine, I’ve been having dumplings from Tian Jin Fong Kee ever since I had my first taste three years ago. Even though they have rice cake and dough skin soup on the menu, I’ve never seen anyone order them. The stall has 70 years of heritage, having perfected its dumpling recipe passed down for three generations.
Tian Jin Fong Kee's dumplings here are slightly pricier than other stalls, with 10 pieces of fried dumplings at $7 and 10 pieces of steamed dumplings at $6. Like most other stalls, you can also purchase their frozen dumplings in bulk to enjoy them at home.
It’s hard to choose between the fried and steamed dumplings, so I shared a plate of both with my friends. Their dumplings are always consistent and cooked just right; they weren’t over or undercooked. The steamed dumplings are juicy and taste heavenly dipped in vinegar and sliced garlic.
The fried dumplings are cooked in a pan, with the bottom fried till crispy but the top still soft and chewy. It’s like getting a mix of both fried and steamed dumpling in one mouthful.
I liked how the filling inside still remained juicy, and some dumplings even had soup inside!
