Gillman Barracks

Gillman Barracks is a contemporary art cluster surrounded by natural tropical greenery, untouched by Singapore’s development over the years. Gillman Barracks houses a number of restaurants and bars, all boasting the same scenic and calm greenery.

Handle Bar

Handle Bar has vibes you won’t find elsewhere in Singapore. This grungy biker theme restaurant is surrounded by natural foliage and dressed down in an informal rustic wood ensemble. Grab meat grill platters and beers on their outdoor benches for a truly one of a kind chill session.

Creamier

Arguably one of the biggest names in Singapore’s ice cream scene, Creamier at Gillman Barracks doesn’t sit in the middle of sprawling foliage, but its outdoor seats are still well shrouded by surrounding potted greens. We also love the green wall by the counter, all of which creates a soothing ambience.

Mason’s

Mason’s at Gillman Barracks is dotted with greenery throughout the restaurant, with a contemporary black and white indoor decor and a generous number of verandah seatings. They whip up European cuisine, and are particularly popular for their barbecued ribs and wide paste-and-pizza menu.

The Lawn

The Lawn is a spacious diner at Biopolis with both indoor and outdoor seating options. True to its namesake, you’ll be blessed with a view of lush green spaces between office buildings here. This establishment has an extensive menu including healthy build-your-own salads. While it’s mainly catered to office workers (so watch out for the lunch crowd!), it also makes for a lovely hideout for brunch and afternoon tea.

Seletar

Located in northeast Singapore, Seletar is home to a number of cafes and eateries with al-fresco eating areas for you to enjoy the ambience.

Wildseed Cafe

It’s not hard to see why this cafe is so popular, with its stunning wildflower-filled interior. Wildseed Cafe is situated in the serene Seletar Aerospace area, and is surrounded by greenery including a park in its compound. 

They function as a dog-friendly cafe in the afternoon, which turns into a bar from 5pm. Note that they have vastly different day and night menus! Also, the bulk of the lunch menu is only available from 11am till 2.30PM, so you may want to note the prime time to go.

Bukit Timah

Bukit Timah has no shortage of green spaces, and here are some places to chill in nature at.

Riders Cafe

Riders Cafe is another place with a view to kill for! Tucked away at Fairways drive, this idyllic, old-fashioned cafe overlooks a horse stable, sprawling lawns and lush trees. Burgers are favourites at Riders, along with homemade tea scones and their infamous Death by Chocolate Cake.

Spruce

Spruce touts itself as a modern European affair, tucked into the some of the quaintest corners of Singapore. Located at Phoenix Park, Spruce is a true hideout for nature lovers. Dine indoors and look out through large windows, or seat at one of their balcony or outdoor tables for a submersive dine-in-the-garden experience.

Spruce offers a comprehensive menu from starters to desserts; crowd favourites here include their wings ($17)  and chocolate lava cake ($14).

As one would expect, OFC offers a myriad of vegan and vegetarian-friendly options for all. Take up the customisable 3-course “Local Luncheon” for a full dining experience!

PS. Cafe at Harding

PS. Cafe at Harding sits in Dempsey Hill has one of their best views. This peaceful outlet is hidden away from surrounding restaurants by surrounding trees. As always, recommended items at P.S. include truffle fries and their double chocolate cake.

Singapore Botanic Gardens is another hotspot for outdoor dining, its restaurants utilising the surrounding verdancy to their full potential. 

Bee's Knees

Casual cafe Bee’s Knees sits on the ground floor of The Garage at Botanic Gardens. They dish out extensive food and drink options, complete with pancakes and ice cream waffles! 

Bee's Knees is a popular midday beer spot, but they also have diverse non-alcoholic options like kombucha. Their truffle fries ($13) and spicy duck loaded fries ($17) are great for sharing.

Botanico

Botanico occupies the second floor with beautiful potted and hanging plants accentuating their garden aesthetic. 

They thoughtfully provide a separate vegan menu and offer both ala carte options and tasting sets throughout the day.

Knots Cafe gets high praise from its regulars as a botanical paradise. Knots creatively displays an assortment of living plants in nook and crannies of the shop, accompanied by art pieces and decors that are for sale for an eclectic look.

Gardens by the Bay

This Garden needs no introduction, but did you know it's also home to a few eateries?

Fennel Cafe

Housed in the Gardens is the relatively pocket-friendly Fennel Cafe. Its two outlets, one in the Flower Dome and another outdoor establishment are popular with Garden visitors. Their diverse menu has a number of vegetarian and vegan options, ranging from toasty pesto-mozza panini flatbread ($12) to a curious ox-tripe cuttlefish gratin ($22).

Ang Mo Kio/Bishan

With its spruced-up canals that now resemble natural rivers, it is always a joy to experience the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio park.

GRUB is a popular heartland park bistro at the Bishan Ang Mo Kio Park. They’re best known for their array of burger and pastas, as well as affordable sides. GRUB also has a good number of mentaiko-infused dishes for mentaiko fans out there!

Bedok

Bedok has several parks, but none as scenic as Bedok Reservoir!

Wawawa is a no-frills bistro perched by the side of Bedok Reservoir with a particularly extensive pizza and sides menu. They’re certainly a choice location to crack open a few beers while enjoying the park and water views.
